Furnace Craft Group
The newest activity on the block is Furnace Craft Group. Our first meeting was held on 21st March 7 – 9pm attended by 17 very enthusiastic local crafters looking to share skills, learn new ones and enjoy the friendly atmosphere. It was a good evening enjoyed by us all.
The group agreed that it would be good to meet every other Wednesday evening in Furnace Village Hall. Many were receptive to the idea of some organised training. One of the group is a keen and accomplished felter who will be showing us how to make felt on April 18th. We are looking to build on this to pull together a schedule of events including other crafts such as rag working, candle making and soap making, some training by those in the group and others given by local crafts people. This more formal training will be complemented by more off-the-cuff, side-by-side sharing of skills that is happening as a natural consequence of getting crafters together in one room!
We welcome anyone to come along and join in. There is a nominal charge of £3 to cover hire of the Village Hall and refreshments. Any money at the end of the year will go towards an outing for the group. Look out for notices about forthcoming groups on the community notice board outside the village hall as well as via our Everything Furnace page on Facebook.
