In the Spring of 2015, following a grant from a local wind farm and a huge community fund raising effort, a small extension to the village hall was completed to house a smart new lounge area complete with its own bar.

In November of that year, the Furnace Social & Recreational Club was set up as a trading subsidiary of Furnace Amenity Association to run the bar and organise social and sporting events in the village. A licence to serve alcohol every weekend was obtained, with the possibility for Occasional Licences for any mid-week functions.

Everyone in the area over the age of 16 is eligible to apply for membership of the club, although access to the bar area and the consumption of alcohol is, of course, for over 18s only. Membership of the club is free and members may sign in visiting guests.

Membership application forms are available from the Club or Furnace and Minard shops.

My wife Carrie and myself will be in Furnace tomorrow the 7th of July and we hope to stop by to say hello for a wee bit. We are from Minnesota. My grandfather Angus Sinclair and his descendants lived in the area. Angus immigrated to the US in about 1909. He captained the 1908 Furnace-Argyll shinty team that was runners up in the Scottish national championships. Carrie and I hope to say hello tomorrow and learn more about Furnace!
