Keep Well Furnace

We like to get the week off to a good healthy start, here in Furnace. Monday mornings see up to 20 members meeting in the Village Hall for some stretches, aerobic exercises and resistance training, followed by a half hour of QI Gong – and a blether.

Led by a trained instructor and based on the Move It Or Lose It programme of exercises, it is aimed at the over 60s and those who maybe haven’t exercised for a while – although all ages are welcome. It is also suitable for people with disabilities and many long term health conditions.

Our Furnace Fit Friday group takes the exercises up a notch to allow for a good workout to some great tunes. A somewhat smaller group, but it certainly sets you up for the weekend.

Each week, members pay a small amount towards the hire of the Hall, equipment, such as the resistance bands and any surplus we save up for a daytrip. We have visited garden centres and shopping centres amongst other places.

TAI CHI FOR ARTHRITIS AND FALLS PREVENTION

Tai Chi classes run once a week in the evenings in blocks of seven weeks. The qualified instructor is a member of the Tai Chi for Health Institute and teaches a form of Tai Chi designed specially for people suffering with arthritis or long term conditions. However, it is suitable for anyone wishing to learn this calming gentle exercise.
